Welcome to Mrs. Burket's website!

This class web site is still under construction but it is designed to be a creative way of getting students and parents excited about a subject, keeping them up to date on assignments, and providing valuable online resources. I hope you find the site engaging,  interesting, and fun.  Please navigate around the site to enjoy the brain teasers, links to explore a wealth of ideas on the web, and current events.  Please feel free to share with me any of your ideas or recommendations to improve this site while I continue to develop it!

Events and Announcements
Updated 4/24/2005

  • We are taking a field trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo May 31st.  Details of the trip and chaperone information will be handed out to students Monday April 25th along with permission slips that must be signed and returned.  Even though my student teaching ends on April 29th I am excited to come back and be a chaperone for the trip!

  • Congratulations to all of the students that have reached the Gold level in Reading Counts!  We have a contest that if half of the class reaches the Gold level Thursday April 28th (the day before my last day), the entire class gets a prize!  Only 4 more students need to reach the Gold level!  ***WE DID IT! WE REACHED OUR GOAL!  THE PIZZA PARTY IS FRIDAY APRIL 29TH DURING FRIDAY CLUB!

  • Congratulations Davin, Mikey, and Ruth for being successful "Secret Walkers" this week!

  • Mrs. Wolfe and I hope that you enjoy the new "Tic-Tac-Toe" spelling homework activities.  The rationale for this use is that students are more successful learners when given a choice of activities because each student learns in different ways.  We were very pleased with the outcome of the assignments and on Friday every student got an A on their test!  Well done!

  • This week in Reading we do not have a story.  We are doing our unit review.  We will be continuing graphing in Math.  In Science we will continue observing, drawing, and recording information about our plants as they grow!

  • A special thanks to our guest who came to visit us on Friday to talk to us about nutrition, germs, and proper hand washing.  The snack was yummy too!  She will continue to visit every Friday for 6 weeks from 10:15-10:45.

  • Thanks to all who donated for the cupcake sale on Friday April 22nd.  It was a great success!

  • We had another guest this week!  Our school nurse's daughter Hannah came to visit us on Friday.  She was like a new student in our class.  She took the Reading, English, and Spelling tests for fun.  She did very well!  Also, much thanks for the ice cream treat that Hannah and her Mom provided for the entire class!

Brainteasers

See if you can solve the brain teaser of the week!  Parents feel free to join in the fun!

Dazzling Dorm Heights

Brittany, Cody, Erin, Marcus, and Roger visited their sisters and brothers at the high-rise dormitory on the State University campus. The kids had fun running up and down the stairs and playing in the elevators. The top 9 floors of the dorm are for male students, and floors 2 through 8 are for female students. (The first floor is the lobby and the cafeteria.)

  • Cody's brother lives on the top floor.
  • Marcus, Roger, and Cody took the elevator to visit Cody's brother's room. Then they ran down 5 flights of stairs. They realized they'd overshot their destination, so they took an elevator up 1 floor to get to Roger's brother's room.
  • From Roger's brother's room the three boys went down 6 flights of stairs to visit Marcus's sister. From her room they took the elevator up 4 floors, where they met Brittany and her brother getting on at his floor.
  • Erin and her sister walked up 2 flights from the lobby to get to Erin's sister's room.

On what floor does each of the college students live?
